"The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" is the work of renowned Manga Artist Shotaro Ishinomori. Aside from "The Legend of Zelda," he is also the creator of other manga comics hits like "Kamen Rider" and "Cyborg 009."

"The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" was first published in 1992 issue of Nintendo Power Magazine, Polygon reported.  It did run as a serialized comic strip in the magazine but later in 1993, the entire series was released as a cartoon novel and that was the last time that the "Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" has been printed until now, CNET reported.

Publisher Viz Media announced that it will reprint "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" manga series as a single volume in May.  Based on the popular Nintendo game, the manga comic tells the adventure of Link and his quest to save Princess Zelda while dealing with dangerous and powerful monsters and insurmountable obstacles.

The manga comic book has more characters and plots than the video game. One of the comic book characters that is not present in the game is Epheremelda, which is a fairy.

Beth Kawasaki, who is the Senior Editorial Director at Perfect Square, said that she is "honored and excited" to have the Zelda manga book be made available to the North American readers.

"The Legend of Zelda" has seen a growing interest among comic book readers and video gamers alike.  Viz Media has also released in 2011 a ten volume Legend of Zelda manga. Among those are "Majora's Mask," "The Minish Cap," "Phantom" and "Ocarina of Time."  In 2013, the "Hyrule Historia" was released and in 2014, a Monopoly game based on the "Legend of Zelda" was also made available.

Readers can expect the "Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" to hit comic book stores by May 5, 2015.
