The encrypted messaging app Wickr is launching its latest photo-sharing feature where users can create and share pictures to their friends and still be assured that the pictures are securely encrypted and will be automatically deleted in 24 hours, according to Tom's Guide.
This feature is called the Wickr Time Feed (WTF). The said feature is also tied-in to Facebook, from which the private pictures can be disguised as cats, Doyel Times reported. When asked why choose to use cat pictures, Sell explained that:
"Spies usually hide secret messages in either porn or cats because they're the two most popular images on the Internet."
Nico Sell, Wickr co-founder, explained that the WTF is likely to be the Instagram killer. The idea came about when his daughter asked him if there is any way that she could share her pictures on Facebook with her privacy minded mother would approve.
The app feature is built in the Wickr messaging app and users can share their stream of pictures to about 151 friends per stream. Friends who view the stream of pictures can react to them with a heart, an icon with the rock-on gesture, or a pile of poop. These reaction are viewable only by the owner of the stream of pictures, and the pictures can be seen and reacted to for only 24 hours upon sending.
The Wickr feature has been unveiled on Jan. 27, Tuesday, for the iOS smart phones. Its Android version will soon be out too, and a desktop version is currently in progress which will eventually be available for PC users.
