Paul Feig, who will be handling the direction of the film, tweeted the new female cast for the comedy film, which is set to start filming in summer. The "Bridesmaid" director and Katie Dippold, who wrote the screenplay for "The Heat," collaborated on writing the Ghostbusters reboot's script.

Initially, it was planned that a "Ghostbusters 3" film would be made as a sequel to the 1989 installment. However, it did not move on to production as Bill Murray, who played one of the lead roles as Peter Venkman, made it clear that he did not want to star for the third installment. In February 2014, Harold Ramis, who played another one of the lead characters Egon Spengler, passed away, ending the plans for the third Ghostbusters film.

Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig also star in Feig's "Bridesmaids" comedy film, McCarthy also starred in "The Heat," according to NY Daily News.

Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are veterans of "Saturday Night Live." The former recently played Justin Bieber in an SNL parody of the Canadian pop-star's Calvin Klein underwear campaign.

Feig said that working with the all-female cast for the Ghostbusters reboot will be "really fun."
