It looks like the "Crash Bandicoot" PS4 release date rumors are not true after all as a representative from National Entertainment Collectibles Association said that a reboot or any new installment is not in the books as of the moment. However, Naughty Dog might just do something about it.

The buzz began when the director of NECA, Randy Falk, said that Sony is bringing the game to the current-gen console. The toy company is in-charge of making toys for the "God of War" and "Uncharted" series, IGN reported.

"Finally, we've been able to get back in with Sony," Falk said in an interview. "Looking at some of their other titles, I see they're bringing Crash Bandicoot back, which is really cool."

Apparently, Falk's basis was an image he thought was a revival of the series for the PS4. Turns out, it was only a fan-made photo and with that in mind, he also explored the possibilities and was ready to talk business from that point on.

"It's not the case," the rep told Game Spot. "Someone has misunderstood a comment he made. Randy saw a faked fan-made image right before he came to the show and said that if the game were coming back, we'd love to do figures."

Although fans might find that disappointing, hope is not lost as Naughty Dog community strategist Arne Meyer said last July 2014 that they can make another installment as long as it makes sense. After seeing the response from fans and gamers, it might be a no-brainer for the gaming company to seriously consider making another chapter of the iconic game franchise.

"It's never off the table," Meyer said in an interview. She also said that there are plenty of developers who worked on "Crash Bandicoot" still employed in the company and they are also the type of institution that never forget their roots. She also said that another installment of both "Crash" and "Jak" will be great for nostalgic reasons.

Speaking of nostalgic, perhaps Naughty Dog can take a page from Square Enix' book as the latter will be making a remake of one of their most popular titles, "Final Fantasy 7" for the PlayStation 4. The reception has been phenomenal and the game ranks at the top of most anticipated games in most gaming websites.
