Newcastle United, who finished 15th during last season's domestic top flight competitions, will attempt to get out of the bottom three relegation zone and salvage a disappointing season with only six games left in their current campaign.

The Magpies are coming off a sorry 1-3 defeat in the hands of Southampton last Saturday on the road at the St. Mary's Stadium for their second consecutive loss, as per SkySports.

The Saints scored the first three goals of the contest courtesy of forward Shane Long, striker Graziano Pelle, and midfielder Victor Wanyama at the fourth, 38th, and 55th minutes respectively.

Long scored the solo strike to give the hosts the early lead, Pelle netted his fourth goal in as many games before halftime to double it, and Wanyama all but sealed the victory before the hour mark of the match.

Newcastle managed to score a consolation goal at the 65th with a 25-yard strike from midfielder Andros Townsend.

It was the seventh straight winless effort for new coach Rafael Benítez's side and ninth consecutive away defeat as well.

Meanwhile, Swansea City is slowly climbing the league table as they registered their fifth unbeaten performance in their last six outings by defeating the deposed defending champions Chelsea FC, 1-0, at the Liberty Stadium last Saturday, as reported by BBC Sport.

Icelandic winger Gylfi Sigurdsson netted the lone goal of the game at the 25th minute, which had proved enough for head coach Francesco Guidolin's squad to come away with the win.

Swansea is now at the 12th spot of the current league table, 13 points adrift of the bottom three relegation zone but is a far 17 points below the fourth and final Champions League qualification berth held by Manchester City with only five games left in their current campaign.

The predicted result is a 2-0 road victory for Swansea City.
