In a recent interview, game producer Yoshinori Kitase gave new updates about the much-awaited "Final Fantasy 7 Remake." Furthermore, he gave reasons why the game will have some changes.
Speaking with Game Informer, Kitase said that as early as now, Square Enix developers have already reached a consensus on the number of installments "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will have, but the plans are still open to changes along the way.
Kitase said, "We do have an idea on the project side in terms of how many installments it may consist of, but unfortunately, we can't share that at the moment. Of course, as we're creating and developing the scenario and the stories, these are things that move in real time. So, the plan may change along the way."
The original PlayStation classic version "Final Fantasy VII," in the same way other titles in the "Final Fantasy" franchise were, had a turn-based RPG system. On the contrary, the upcoming remake will move away from the conventional turn-based gameplay system to embrace an Action RPG system. The producer explained why they made such a move and gave one hit title in the series as an example, known for delivering great Action RPG gameplay.
The game producer said, "We haven't completely transitioned into action, but as our director [Tetsuya] Nomura-san says, 'Final Fantasy' (in terms of action games) is best represented by 'Dissidia' in the current landscape."
Kitase added that while the remake will not be action-based like "Dissidia," the visuals and the way the gameplay feels essentially will be drawn from the "Dissidia-esque" style. "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" is reportedly in development, although for now, there is no release window announced yet.
In other reports, it was revealed that Square Enix released "Final Fantasy 13" in three episodes, and according to user Philippo via NeoGAF, the game developer company will follow the same trend with the remake. Although there will be no big changes, each episode will be the size of a "Final Fantasy VII" game.
According to the source, the game developer will not make any notable changes to the pattern for the upcoming remake since it will have a huge gameplay of more than 30 hours. As a result, almost everything will be the same, although the company plans to keep the development cycle for the remake shorter than "Final Fantasy XV."
