It looks like the Sacramento Kings are seriously considering rebuilding this off-season as reports suggest that All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins is back on the trading block.
Although it might be unthinkable for the Kings to trade their franchise star, General Manager Vlade Divac is said to be tired of Boogie's attitude, Fan Sided reported.
Ever since Cousins was drafted by Sacramento in 2010, the center has yet to break the franchise's 10-year playoff drought. Not to blame the center, but the events that transpired within his five years with the franchise are indications that he may not be the right leader they need, the website added.
The team struggled to find the right head coach for Cousins, who has been under five mentors in Paul Westphal, Keith Smart, Tyrone Corbin and the recently fired George Karl and things did not go well with each one, except for Michael Malone. This year, Cousins and Karl were often in the news for unflattering reasons.
Hence, this reportedly urged Divac to look at the other side of the coin. With two years left in his contract, Cousins is said to be available for the right price. Also, the GM would be wise to move the center quickly as he is starting to build a reputation of being a coach killer. Perhaps, the opening of the new Golden 1 Center in Downtown Sacramento will be a bit more refreshing with an overhauled roster, the website suggested.
With the way things are shaping up in Sacramento, it may not be a surprise should the management stop adjusting for Cousins all the time. This season, Cousins was said to be untouchable, but now, Divac is reportedly serious in testing the market for the two-time All-Star.
Divac expressed his dismay in another missed opportunity to make the playoffs. Later, he hinted that he will definitely think things through and might start looking at another direction.
"I wasn't happy we didn't make the playoffs," Divac told SacBee.com. "We had to do something. I felt we had to go in a different direction, a different voice."
