"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary iconic performer, Prince, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57," from publicist Yvette Noel-Schure. "There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time."

According to the report, Prince had been battling the flu for weeks. His condition was aggravated that a place he was a passenger on had to make an emergency landing to bring him to the hospital in Illinois. He also had to cancel two shows on his current "Piano at the Microphone" tour.

The NBA recently had the pleasure of his presence last month when he graced a home game of the Golden State Warriors in Oakland. Fansided noted that Prince entered the Oracle Arena "like a boss." His appearance overshadowed the intense rivalry between the teams as the Thunder attempted to break the Warriors' then 43-game winning streak at home.

"It's often asked whether or not Prince is the coolest  human being to ever live, and well, watch the video above and that question should be definitively answered," Fansided proclaimed. "Yes, yes he is. Few people on this earth would walk into an NBA game dressed like that and with an awesome cane."

Prince has been known as a recluse, thus his presence in a basketball game was rare. The fact that he attended a game in what would eventually end up as the last months meant a lot for hoops fans.

The icon, born Prince Rogers Nelson is one of the most familiar figures figures of the 80s. He sold over 100 million albums throughout his career and his most memorable work for most fans is his best-selling "Purple Rain" which was also a semi-autobiographical movie.

Even after his fame has subsided, Prince continued to perform. He has won seven Grammy awards and was already inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last 2004.
