Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will have a chance to revive their French Open rivalry next month at Stade Roland Garros, but the epic competition between the two could get tested ahead of the second Grand Slam event of the year.

There is a great chance fans get to see another classic tennis match between Nadal and Djokovic in the upcoming Madrid Open at the Caja Magica.

Djokovic, ranked No. 1 in the world, is projected to enter the tournament as the top seed, while world No. 5 Nadal would probably be the fifth seed in Madrid, which means both players could meet in the final round of the event and showcase another masterful performance on the dirt.

However, that could only happen if Djokovic defeat the likes of Roger Federer and avoid another mishap in the early round, and Nadal gets past potential blocks in Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka.

Djokovic is coming off a very rare loss at the Monte Carlo Masters, his first clay-court tournament this season, when he was defeated by Czech Jiri Vesely in the second round of the event.

But regardless of what the outcome was, the Serb, carrying a season match record of 28 wins and only two losses, could still be the favorite heading into the Madrid Open, although the Belgrade native has yet to show any promising performance on clay-tournaments this season.

On the other hand, Nadal heads into his next tournament with back-to-back wins in Monte Carlo and Barcelona. His sudden return to his vintage form makes him not only the favorite in the next clay-events, including the French Open, but also the player to beat, according to Federer.

"[The] King of clay is Rafa," Federer said, reports Rafael Nadal Fans. "He is the tennis player to beat. Novak's never won in Paris. Maybe now he's the favorite, but Nadal is Nadal."

With the way things are going for Nadal, and Djokovic still in tennis domination, it is safe to argue that a finals appearance at the Madrid Open between the two rivals is not too far-fetched. And that could also be the case come French Open in May.

Nadal and Djokovic has a rich history of tennis rivalry that started at the clay courts of the French Open back in 2006, when the Spaniard defeated Nole in the quarterfinals of the major event. Nadal has won 14 of their overall 20 clay court meetings, but Djokovic has conquered the last two clash, most recently in last year's Roland Garros, where the Serb beat the King of Clay in the quarterfinals. But after Nadal has won back-to-back titles in the clay-season, odds have favored the Malllorcan to win a 10th French Open title and once again deny Djokvoic of a Roland Garros glory, which the Serb has miserably failed to do so in the last two years.
