The hype train for Channing Tatum's "Gambit" movie just got derailed again as the people working on the spin-off got a bit off their hands full with other projects.

The film's director, Doug Liman, is reportedly working on a new project called "The Wall" while "Gambit" writer, Reid Carolin is working to improve the film's script. With all the sudden change of plans, the movie is said to start production in fourth quarter of 2016 and will likely be released in 2017, Blastr reported.

Also, Channing Tatum is reportedly not too inclined to play the role as he was even hesitant to sign in the contract in the early stages of the movie. Looking on the bright side, this is not the first of many Marvel movies to encounter problems in production like "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," the website stated.

The film was described to have a different flavor compared to previous Marvel and "X-Men" films according to producer Simon Kinberg. Also, the film is said to feel like a heist with a touch of sexy thriller as well, Collider learned. Considering the lead role being played by Tatum, it may no longer be a surprise if they apply a little "Magic Mike" in the movie.

Now, the most anticipated finale of the "X-Men" trilogy, "X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to hit movie screens on May 27. The film will boast a huge cast of iconic mutants including Jean Grey, Mystique, Psylocke, Apocalypse, Cyclops, Quicksilver, Beast, Magneto, Wolverine and Charles Xavier among others. Fans made it known that they would like Gambit to at least make a cameo when the movie was announced.

However, the idea of Channing Tatum joining the cast of "X-Men: Apocalypse" is highly unlikely as the film is done and no leaks or reports of the "Magic Mike" star making an appearance in the said film surfaced online.

Nevertheless, "X-Men: Apocalypse" is projected to be one of the top grossing films of 2016. Now, it would be interesting to see what path the production team of "Gambit" will take. Perhaps, they could take a page or two from "X-Men: Apocalypse" or the highly popular "Deadpool" movie.

Here is the latest on the movie.
