The battle between Arima and Kaneki has reached a whole new level as the latter finally decided to retaliate against his former mentor and return to his old self. Also, Eto made a surprise appearance and it looks like she is there to assist the team to escape the CCG.
Last chapter, Kaneki's party was cornered by the CCG forces and just when they thought it was over, Eto came to the rescue and obliterated everyone that was blocking their way. Yomo and the others were surprised to see Eto come to their aid and it is likely that she will interfere in the ongoing match between the top dogs of Aogiri Tree and the CCG.
Scene shifts to Arima and Kaneki, where the latter has finally unveiled his Kakuja to counter the former's powerful weapon extracted from The Owl. Kaneki's combat abilities went to the roof as Arima began to have a hard time battling his former student. However, it did not last long as the top investigator began slashing his opponent's limb, not giving him any chances of regenerating.
Lying helpless on the ground, Kaneki wondered if Touka and the others were able to escape. Later, his late best friend Hide appeared in his subconscious and encouraged him to continue fighting and find a reason to live. After the faithful encounter, the almost dead protagonist turned back to his old, white-haired look, proven to be his strongest form.
After reading the chapter, fans over at My Anime List were not thrilled to see the events that transpired leading to Kaneki regaining his old self. User Arcanix thought the way of Kaneki reverting back to his old self is a bit forced and lacked substance. Nevertheless, this may be a good start for the main character who has been suppressing his emotions since the start of the series. Now that the feeling of guilt of losing his best friend is gone, a lighter and bolder Kaneki is expected.
Meanwhile, fans are also having a discussion on Reddit regarding the recent events and transformation of Kaneki. User 28H508 believes it was Arima's plan all along to torture Kaneki for him to realize his true potential, as he could have ended his former student's life anytime he wanted.
