There are more NBA trade rumors brewing as speculations heightens over the recent statements by the Philadelphia 76ers.
In a report from Scott Howard Cooper of NBA.com, new Sixers GM had some comments that open possibilities for the team.
"It's hard to put a number or a value on degree of aggressiveness, but we'll certainly be open for business and listening to whatever is there," Colangelo said at the draft combine. "I think any time you have certain assets on the table in front of you, you need to determine what your best strategic move is, and some of that is yet to be determined. To what degree we'll be aggressive, it's too early to say."
The son of team consultant Jerry Colangelo gave more insight to his plans with his next comments that hint on the importance of the lottery result-specifically with the possibility that they could have multiple picks in the top 5.
"I think you should always be a little proactive, just in determining what your best course of action is," Colangelo said. "But I think we'll explore everything in every regard and that's the good news about having the kind of flexibility and the number of assets that we have."
He confirms his intention to possibly deal their pick. "It really just comes from the conversation following the lottery results. That's the one thing about the lottery. Once it's completed we'll know exactly what we have. Before anything else happens, that's the first domino that's got to fall. Tuesday's a big day for us in a whole host of ways."
The Sixers can get the Lakers pick which can range from the no.1 to no.5 if it falls outside the top three. They can also get the Sacramento Kings pick if it lands in the top 10 (currently 8th place).
The main theme here is the shift from Hinkie's process to Colangelo's deadline to compete. Colangelo has a roster with juniors and sophomores at the frontcourt with Joel Embiid and Dario Saric coming in as virtual rookies as well. He may not be interested in having a rookie for a point guard. The speculation is that they want a shot at the top two (Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram) but would rather trade the top 5 pick for a veteran-preferably a point guard.
One team that wants to get younger is the Chicago Bulls and according to the Chicago Tribune, they have their sights set on Kris Dunn. While they have a lottery pick, they have the lowest odds to win. The best way is to trade for a top 5 pick-which the Sixers plan to deal.
The Bulls are also alleged to shop Derrick Rose as they are all in on Jimmy Butler as their new "alpha dog." A swap of Rose for the Sixers second pick is possible and because of the Sixers salary cap space, they don't really have to match.
Sixers GM Bryan's dad is Jerry Colangelo who manages Team USA. Rose played in the team for 2014 and 2010. While he has gone through a ton of injuries, he played well towards the end of last season.
Now that Rose is an expiring contract, he is now a low-risk prospect. Rose is expected to give his best effort in order to win another long-term contract. Also, there are not a lot of veteran point guards in play for free agency and they are not likely to pick the Sixers in a competitive market.
Trading Rose to the Sixers for a top five pick could be a win-win situation for both teams.
