The latest game in the "Half Life" series, "Half Life 2," was released more than a decade ago, but the following for the franchise has remained strong. Most of the "Half Life" fans are still waiting patiently for the third installment of the game, and fortunately for them, it seems like Valve is currently developing "Half-Life 3" game, which is rumored to be scheduled for release in 2018.
According to Neurogadget, Valve is currently working tirelessly on "Half Life 3" in order to release the game in two years. The first "Half Life" installment was released in 1998, and the publication suggests that it would only be appropriate for "Half Life 3" to come out on the 20th anniversary of its initial release.
Moreover, reports claimed that the upcoming Valve game may just be developed in virtual reality format. Considering the popularity of VR headsets, the "Half Life 3" VR rumor may not be completely baseless. Still, it was revealed that Valve is currently involved in providing necessary software for the HTC Vive - further fanning the rumor mill.
The latest reports surrounding "Half Life 3" VR is not the first time, as Game Rant published an article in 2015 citing HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang's statement regarding HTC and Valve's "Half-Life" partnership. Wang has since recanted her statement, and she explained that she misspoke and that HTC is not developing the "Half Life 3" game with Valve.
"I would like to apologise for any confusion caused when I referred to individual games titles. In response to a question on specific games, I misspoke when I referred to our working together with Valve on a particular game, when instead I meant our collaboration with Valve on developing next-generation virtual reality experiences for gaming," Gamerant quoted Wang as saying.
Valve's "Half Life" is without a doubt one of the best videogame franchises ever released. The original game and its sequel have since received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and casual players alike. As of a few years ago, the game has sold over 9 million copies and has received at least 50 Game of the Year awards.
Once "Half Life 3" is released in VR format by 2018, it will also replicate the success of its predecessors.
