NBC News is facing its worst predicament ever as the host of the "Nightly News," Brian Williams, decided to take some time off in the midst of the allegation over his inaccurate reporting.
Williams released an official statement on Saturday saying, "In the midst of a career spent covering and consuming news, it has become painfully apparent to me that I am presently too much a part of the news, due to my actions."
Williams added that during his absence he will be replaced by Lester Holt as news presenter for NBC, according to News Day. He is also appealing that upon his return he could still win the trust of people around him.
The veteran news anchor was enveloped in controversy after claiming that when he was chosen to cover the news about the Iraq War, a helicopter that he was riding was forced to land after it took a hit from a rocket-propelled grenade, according to The New Yorker. However, no military records could prove that the incident really did happen.
To make matters worse of Williams, the New Orleans Advocate released a story that questions his reporting during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Several media corporation including The Washington Post reported Williams' discrepancy in reporting citing his assertion that he saw a man jump into his death in the Superdome.
Sources close to the NBC said that the company is undergoing internal investigation to dig deeper into the issue. The team did not issue an official statement as to what angles are they trying to uncover or the duration of the investigation.
