Square Enix announced last year that it would be launching "Final Fantasy 7 Remake," but there was no specific information on when the game will be released. While some fans speculate that the game will come out during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 slated for June 14-16, latest rumors suggest that "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will come out in Q3 2017.

The game developer has released its official financial report for the year, revealing the list of games that are scheduled to come out from now to March 2017, according to Gamespot. However, "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" is not among the list, indicating that the game will release much later, possibly in Q3 2017.

"Final Fantasy XV" is slated for a release on Sept. 30. Other games listed to launch this year are "Rise of the Tomb Raider" and "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided." Apparently, all these games will come out before the end of this year, with "Rise of the Tomb Raider" slated for a holiday release.

Since "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" is not included in the list, speculations have it that Square Enix may unveil it by Q3 2017, probably by September 2017. It is reported that the game developer will give priority to "Kingdom Hearts III" because it was announced first and has been under scrutiny for over three years.

In case Square Enix considers "Kingdom Hearts III," "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" may be pushed back by one more year to release in 2018. Previous reports indicated that "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" would be released episodically, with each episode being as big as a full PS4 game.

The game will be split akin "Final Fantasy XIII" trilogy, which was split into three titles. As a result, the upcoming title will not just be a single game with multiple episodes added on as small DLC packs.

The official trailer for "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" reveals changes to combat and exploration. However, full details concerning the game's new mechanics, what may have been changed, or kept are yet to be unveiled.

With regard to the episodic release, producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed via an interview with Game Informer, saying, "It will essentially be a full scale game for each part of the multi-part series [...] if we're just looking at each of these parts; one part should be on par with the scale of one Final Fantasy XIII game."
