It is not a new thing to hide a post from a user's timeline. However, a new Facebook feature is in the pipeline to make it easier for the user to control their post. The new feature will allow posting of content only in the News Feed and will not be shown from the timeline.

Presently, users can hide their post from the public eye by customizing the audience. They can select the individual or group of people who can see their post. It is also possible to find the post and select the option to hide it from the timeline.

With the new Facebook feature, users can tick the "hide from your timeline" checkbox when updating their status. This way, the post will not show in their own timeline and will only be seen in your friend's News Feeds.

In a statement obtained by Engadget, Facebook said that the new feature which is still in the works was inspired by its aim to offer customization in sharing the user's post.

"The ability to hide a post from your Timeline already exists, and today we're testing a feature that would make it even easier to control where your posts live by giving you the option to publish a post only to News Feed and not to your Timeline," Facebook told the tech publication.

The new Facebook feature will still appear in the search results. It will also be seen in the activities of the user from the "Your Posts" page that is visible only to the user.

At the moment, the new feature is only available for some Facebook users on the web and not on mobile. There is no exact date yet when it will be permanently rolled out.

In other news, Facebook is also testing another feature that will permit users to alert their friends about their posts, Telegraph reported. It is currently tested in iOS app and Facebook's website in the U.K., France and Canada.

In this new Facebook feature, users could see a loudspeaker icon and a notification that says notify a few friends about this post right after posting a status. Users could share their post to up to 10 friends the moment they click the box.
