A gameplay footage of "Pokemon GO" has made its way online, revealing a customizable avatar and how to capture wild Pokemon.
The roughly 9-minute video starts with letting the player choose between playing as a male or a female, according to IGN. Upon choosing, players can then customize facial features, cap design, clothing items and backpack. The footage also confirms that the player won't be given a Pokemon starter, which is a usual in "Pokemon" titles.
Instead, the trainer is ready from the get-go to catch a wild Pokemon. The video also shows the mechanics of capturing a Pokemon, which also deviates from the usual game. Instead of battling with it, the player must simply throw the Poke Ball the right way for a higher chance to catch it.
The video shows Porygon being successfully caught, after which the player gained experience.
Also according to the video, players must choose between three teams at the gym: Blue, Red and Yellow. Upon choosing, they players can battle gym leaders of the differently colored gyms. The footage shows the classic turn-based battle system, but it reveals that the attacks are automated. Players can train their Pokemon in the friendly gyms.
The footage comes from beta field testing in Australia. As of now, the field tests are being done in the United States, New Zealand and Japan, apart from Australia.
Meanwhile, Nintendo revealed a July release date during their E3 livestream on Wednesday, July 15. They also announced the Pokemon GO Plus, a wearable game accessory that is compatible with any smartphone that has the game installed.
"After the Pokémon GO Plus is paired via Bluetooth LE and a brief setup process is completed, players can encounter and catch Pokémon like never before," said Nintendo.
Even without looking at the smartphone, the player can catch Pokemon by tapping a button on the Pokemon GO Plus, which vibrates when there's a Pokemon nearby. Also with it, the player can collect Poke Balls, Pokemon Eggs and Berries at set locations called PokeStops without reaching for their smartphone.
An exact release date for "Pokemon GO" has not yet been revealed, but it is expected in the coming weeks.
