In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in early June, Gregg said that he was left stunned when he learned that he was not the series' director of anymore. It was also not clear why he was demoted, but there were rumors saying that his tendency to have erratic behavior towards his agents was the reason.

"I was not given a clear answer," Gregg told the publication when he was asked who will possibly replace him as a director in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4. " I don't know that it's been determined. I thought I was going to find out when I saw Civil War, but it's not at all clear."

Gregg admitted that he would be pleased if Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) would be his successor, adding she had the rights to be the next head of the series. Being Coulson's right hand woman could also be the reason why she could win the place as the new director for obvious reasons.

In other news, fans are also awaiting what could be the fate of Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) after he was killed by Coulson in Season 3. During the Awesome Con, Dalton hinted that the displacement of Ward's body and the end of Hive would not mean that he will not be seen anymore in S.H.I.E.L.D.

"We'll have to see where Season 4 goes," Examiner quoted Dalton as saying during the Awesome Con. "I don't know. I'm hoping for, like, like, robot next. You never know..." He added that Life Model Decoys - or LMDs had been brought up in the show that could open another possibility for him to return.

The possibility of Dalton returning as a clone or a robot aside from his appearance in flashbacks is the way he could be seen again in the upcoming season. Fans just have to wait how Ward will be seen if he turns up in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4.
