Fresh from a heartbreaking defeat against France, the Philippines 'Gilas Pilipinas' will try one more time to advance to the next phase of the tournament against the Tall Blacks of New Zealand in an all-important confrontation at Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines.

What's at Stake:

Philippines - The Philippine men's basketball team pushed world's no.5 France to the limit but eventually collapsed down the stretch, allowing the Frenchmen to escape with a 9-point lead, 93-84, in the first Group B match.

The loss is a big blow to the Philippines' chance of qualifying to the semifinal round, but all is not lost for Smart Gilas, who can still salvage a seat in the next round with a victory over New Zealand.

New Zealand - As for the Kiwis, winning against the Filipinos is a must since France is a much more formidable foe in their last assignment. Although they are missing the service of Oklahoma City Thunder center Steven Adams, the Tall Blacks are still represented well in the tournament with domestic league stars leading the charge.

Prediction:

The Philippines did well against the Frenchmen offensively, especially in the first quarter where they scored 30 points. However, their defense didn't hold up when needed the most, and that's what head coach Tab Baldwin is going to emphasize heading into the next match against the Kiwis.

Andray Blatche will continue their main man, while spitfire guards Terrence Romeo and Jason Castro will provide support for their naturalized center.

Kiwis, on the other hand, will pin their hopes on their running game and physical style of play. Nebraska Cornhuskers TaiJack Wesbster is a deadshot from the perimeter, and should be guarded throughout the match. Wellington Saints stars Shea Ili and Benny Anthony could also inflict some damage, so the Philippines should do their homework well.

Broadcast Details:

Philippines vs. New Zealand will start at 9:00 a.m US ET/ 9 p.m Phil time on Sports5.ph, FIBA OQT Stream, and Sports Stream, while Boxscores and Stats are available on FIBA OQT stats page.
