In the official press release of Netflix, the entertainment company asserted the return of the true crime docuseries and added that showrunners and directors, Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos are already preparing for the upcoming new episodes. "Making a Murderer" Season 2 was the result of the success of Season 1 that garnered Emmy nominations in various categories including Outstanding Documentary or Non-Fiction Series.

"We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series," Ricciardi and Demos said in their statement with Netflix Media Center. "The viewers' interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold."

"Making a Murderer" Season 2 follows the story of convicted murderer Steven Avery and his co-defendant, Brendan Dassey, as they continue to fight over their convictions. However, the state disagrees with them and is strongly supporting that they will suffer in jail for the crimes they committed. The new season will see the happenings after Avery and Dassey were convicted.

In the upcoming season, viewers could expect to see some family members close to the convicted and how the case is affecting them. The new chapter will also show Avery's new attorney Kathleen Zellner and Dassey's legal team, led by Laura Nirider and Steve Drizin.

Right after the docuseries garnered six Emmy nominations, Ricciardi and Demos immediately shared the good news to The Hollywood Reporter. When asked about their next move, the creators revealed that a sequel is more likely to happen. During the interview, they said that they have been very interested to make "Making a Murderer" Season 2 or to do more episodes since Dec. 2015.

"Making a Murderer" is about Avery, who was falsely sentenced for sexual assault and then later was acquitted after 18 years. Soon after his release, he was convicted for murdering photographer Teresa Halbach.

The creators spent 10 years to helm the docuseries. It aims to show the prosecution and happenings after Avery and Dassey were charged with the crime, and if there is prejudice taking place in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin.
