Norm McDonald recently took to Twitter to give praises to Eddie Murphy, who turned down the offer to play the embattled comedian Bill Cosby in a "Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special" sketch.
For McDonald, Murphy is the coolest guy and is a rock star even in a room with actual rock stars. The "SNL" cast member and writer said he realized that Murphy is "not like the rest of us" as he "does not need the laughs."
In his Twitter account, Macdonald gave details about Murphy's decision to not play Cosby in the "SNL 40" episode through around 100 tweets from the writing process to the anniversary show.
According to Macdonald, he had met Murphy in his dressing room and made an attempt to convince him to perform an impression of the comedian who has been accused of sexual assault by more than 20 women.
Macdonald explained that Murphy refused to do the sketch because "the laughs are not worth it" and he is not willing to "kick a man when he is down."
In one of his tweets, Macdonald wrote, "He knew the laughs would bring the house down. Eddie Murphy knows what will work on SNL better than any one."
Murphy was only 19 years old when he joined "SNL" in 1981. He left the show in 1985. On Feb. 15, Sunday, he appeared on the celebratory three-hour episode of the NBC show to tell "SNL" viewers about what the show meant to him.
It has been confirmed that Murphy will play Axel Foley in the 2016 film "Beverly Hills Cop 4."
