Prisma is finally out for Android after several weeks of being launched for the iOS platform and out of the beta stage as it makes it way to the Google Play Store.

The photo manipulation app has been popular for iOS users who wanted to turn their selfies into artsy pictures with Instagram-like filters. What makes Prisma different is that the artistic painting effects on the photos look well-made almost to the point that an artist painted the picture.

Prisma allows users to turn their selfies into painting portraits using the different art movement filters available in the app. The photos could be transformed into expressionist paintings or other art styles.

The Prisma app has already more than 10.6 million installs on the iOS platform when it launched, The Verge has learned. Google could also observe the same or even a larger figure for the Android downloads considering that the open sourced system owns a larger market share across the world.

Photo sharing apps have become quite popular especially with the boom of social media. Facebook even bought Instagram to cash in on the people's narcissistic personality.

With Prisma's impressive photo manipulation features, it could also be one other app that Facebook would acquire. The social network giant recently bought the MSQRD app which allowed users to swap faces or to change their faces in place of masks and faces of other celebrities.

Users should also be careful of downloading fake Prisma apps on the Google Play Store as the official app itself hasn't been placed at the top of the search results just yet, Android Central reported. The legit version comes from Prisma Labs, Inc and users should avoid other apps that do not have the developer's name on them.

Prisma claims that there have been over 400 million photos "prismed" when it launched on the iOS platform. The figure can double or even triple as it now launches for the Android platform.

Interested users can now download the Prisma app from the Google Play Store for free. Prisma APK files from third-party sites should be avoided as well as they can contain malware.
