The United States Government shut down KickassTorrents (KAT) with the alleged arrest of the owner Artem Vaulin in Poland. The Department of Homeland Security issued a seizure notice for all official KAT domains, including kickasstorrents.com, kastatic.com, thekat.tv, kat.cr, kickass.to, kat.ph, and kickass.cr. However, not all is lost since users still have alternatives where they can legally download movies and music, in addition to mirrors that have ever since emerged.

Soon after the KAT's shutdown, the search for operational KickassTorrents proxy and mirror has increased on Google with other searches including results for KickassTorrents alternatives and new domains, according to Tech Worm. Users can now opt for Torrentz, The Pirate Bay, and Extra Torrent.

Based on readers demand and requests, atop most popular KAT working proxies, mirror sites, and alternative that are not being updated include kickasstorrents.to, settorrent.com, and kickasstorrents.website (operating as an unofficial working mirror of the KAT from a member of IsoHunt team. Most of these proxies and mirror websites are not being updated because they follow the main KickassTorrents website that has been down since the seizure and desist notice.

Proxy sites and mirrors carry the old KickassTorrents script and are not being updated following the shutdown of the main domains, and therefore, several new clones have replaced KAT. The clones are being updated and moderated regularly with new torrents. Such websites, which are not associated with the original KickassTorrents, include dxtorrent.com, kickass.la, katstorrents.co, and kickass.unlocked.cat.

Although many KAT proxy, mirrors, and clones are seeking to replace the original KAT domain, the torrent community prefers to go for trusted alternatives, according to the same publication. Users believe that these new KAT clones can be a honeytrap from the copyright organizations or even they cannot be trusted because of their vulnerability to malware.

As a result, members of the torrent community are advised to use Torrentz, The Pirate Bay, and Extra Torrent. Torrentz is a meta-search engine for BitTorrent that offers search results for a torrent from various major torrent websites.

The Pirate Bay is popularly known as the current operating with its original .org domain. Extra Torrent has a powerful category wise listing of torrents content making it an alternative to KAT.

The three top websites are currently receiving most of the traffic from the torrent enthusiasts looking for alternatives to KickassTorrents. Here is footage for more information on KAT:
