In early July after two new Hallyus premiered in South Korea and China, observers were asking which of the two Korean dramas could match the success of "Descendants of the Sun?"

“Uncontrollably Fond” was pitted against "Doctors." During its first week, “Uncontrollably Fond” got a score of 289.1 points on South Korea’s “Content Power Index,” a chart developed by Nielsen Korea and CJ E&M, an entertainment company.”

However, because of Bae Suzy’s alleged poor acting, the show’s ratings continuously dipped until it reached single-digit. On the other hand, “Doctors” regained the top slot on Monday-Tuesday serial, reported ATimes.

According to Movienewsguide, on its first episode, the medical drama got a 12.9 percent rating. It rose to 14.2 percent the following week and grew to 18.4 percent.

ATimes cited Nielsen Korea’s published ratings which said the medical drama got a 19.2 rating. The producers of “Doctors” have the touching scene between Park Shin-Hye and Han Hye-jin to thank for. Han was in a cameo role as a patient with lock-in syndrome.

It is a medical condition characterized by paralysis, but the patient is conscious and could do some eye movements. Yoo Hye-jung, the character played by Park Shin-hye, visited the patient and encourages her to open the door to her healing.

The aim of “Doctors’” producer is to breach the 20 percent ratings mark. Its competitors on the Monday-Tuesday slot got lower ratings. It was 3.4 percent for “Beautiful Mind” shown over KBS and 13.7 percent for “Monster,” aired over MBC. For the rest of the week, the medical drama’s rival is still “Uncontrollably Fond.”
