"Parks and Recreation" star Amy Poehler has released a statement about the death of the show's producer identified as Harris Wittels as she noted that he struggled with addiction.
According to E! News, the star said in an acceptance speech when she attended the unite4:good's unite4:humunity gala at the Beverly Hilton that she lost a friend who was dear to her and who was young. Poehler was accepting an award for her works for Worldwide Orphans.
Wittels, aside from being a producer, is also a comedian who regularly appears on IFC's "Comedy Bang Bang." He was found dead in his apartment in Los Angeles and possibly died due to overdose, according to his assistant's statements to Extra TV.
Poehler added in her statement that she is sharing her statements because life and death live so close together and that everyone walks in that fine line every day. She added, "When things happen in our lives, we turn to the people that we love...and we lean on people, in a hope that we will ease our pain."
The comedian and actress pointed out that she is not in the mood to make jokes about his friend's death as she is truly feeling sad. She noted that it was great she was in the event and could listen to all of the guests who attended and listen to the great works that they do.
Wittels' death is still to be determined as a coroner has to finish the toxicology report for at least six to eight weeks before an autopsy will be released regarding his death. The producer and comedian was only 30 years old.
Wittels was originally a standup comic but was eventually hired as a writer for "The Sarah Silverman Program". Silverman actually released a statement about the death of Wittels as she said that he was his baby and that she was mad at him for leaving them at an early time. She also complemented Wittels saying that he was brilliant, creative and he loved comedy more than anything.
