Although the release date for the next season of "Tokyo Ghoul" is still under the wraps, the series has been hinted to come out this year. Fans are hoping the show will premiere not later than the winter season. Meanwhile, it has been rumored that a new protagonist will be introduced in season 3 now that Madhouse Entertainment takes over production.
Fans aired their sentiments regarding how the previous producer, Studio Perriot, handled the series' last season, saying it was far from the original source material. Madhouse Entertainment intends to make the upcoming story aligned with the manga's original content, Anime Maru reported.
The next installment will focus on the story of Touka Kirishima. On the other hand, Ken's story will still be followed as he assumes a new identity as a ghoul investigator after he was kidnapped by a group of terrorists, the report added.
The publication also revealed where series writer "Bob" spilled that the upcoming story will be the most "disillusioning, physiological and darkest" they will attempt to create. He even added they hope to stick with the original source material, but also gave a disclaimer saying they cannot assure gory scenes will not be censored.
The primary episode has been reported to feature monologue from Touka where he is seen torn between choosing Kamii University, To-Oh University and Duke University. Fans are only hoping the story will not be fast-paced and more consistent frames will be produced. Meanwhile, fans at a discussion thread in Funimation are still asking when the season finally airs.
"Tokyo Ghoul" is a Japanese manga series written by Sui Ishida. Its first publication in the manga magazine Weekly Young Jump started in September 2011 and ended in September 2014. The series was also published with a sequel entitled "Tokyo Ghoul:re" and was published in the same magazine last October 2014. On the other, its prequel, titled "Tokyo Ghoul Jack" was also published online via Jump Live.
