Invel and Gray are in for a huge showdown in "Fairy Tail" chapter 498 as the winner of this battle will give their respective side the momentum in the ongoing war. Meanwhile, it looks like the relationship between Irene and Erza will finally be revealed.
In the previous chapter, Natsu and his team continue to advance and make their way to the guild. However, they were temporarily frozen by Zeref's right hand man, Invel except Gray, who seems to be immune to his magic. As the two went into battle, Gray's magic was not on par to Invel's winter magic.
Fans over at Reddit believe Gray will show never before seen magic which fans did not get to see during the guild's reunion. It is worth noting that he was part of a dark guild before and it seems like he has full grasp of the Ice Demon Slayer Magic his father passed on to him during the Tartaros Arc. Moreover, Gray may team-up with Lamia Scale's Lyon, as they are the only ones capable of countering Invel's magic.
Also, fans are mystified on why Irene hates Erza so much to the point that she wants the latter killed. Some believe the relationship between the two goes way back when Erza was still a child. They came from a family of crazy mages that was exterminated a long time ago with only the two of them surviving the carnage. Irene, enraged of Erza escaping, wants her dead despite the two of them being siblings.
As a quick refresher on the previous chapter, here is the chapter courtesy of Manga Mint. The Fairy Heart inside Mavis is being extracted by Irene as the first guild master is rendered useless due to Invel's Ice Magic. Zeref warns the enchantress to take it easy on her but the latter told him to get rid of his naivety as he will not be able to beat Acnologia if he remains like that.
Also, Neinhart tells Irene that he has located Erza and the scarlet-haired mage ordered him to kill Titania, despite his magic not working against the said mage. Here is a video review of the previous chapter.
