Magic in "Doctor Strange" not something that is easy to define and adds mystery to the tone of the film. Derrickson also revealed why Cumberbatch is the perfect person to play Stephen Strange in the film citing that ability to play a character is important, from the top of his egocentricity to his fall from grace.

Viewers will begin to see Strange's journey for redemption and will slowly grow out of his ego and becomes a selfless hero. Derrickson stated that he never felt pressured to integrate his film into the larger MCU, but that there are “some touches” to let audiences know it exists in within that universe.
