It is still a big question whether "Scream" Season 3 is renewed or cancelled. However, the "Scream Halloween Special" which will air in October could shed some light on the possible fate of the Kevin Williamson horror franchise.

On Aug. 16, Tuesday, an event called "Scream After Dark" confirmed a "Scream Halloween Special" that will be seen on the small screen in October, TVLine reported. The show is a two-hour show that will answer all the cliffhangers left in the Season 2 finale. It is not certain whether the MTV Halloween special is designed to wrap up the series instead of continuing with "Scream" Season 3.

The official Twitter page of Scream later verified the Halloween special. The post seemed to reassure the fans that all their speculations about the last season will be cleared, but it did not elaborate whether it will serve as a possible ending for the series.

It is still a huge suspense if MTV will still come up with "Scream" Season 3. The network announced the Season 2 renewal in July, but it remained tight lipped about the next season at the network's Television Critics Association (TCA) event.

MTV may be weighing on the possibility of continuing or removing the series after it showed a diminishing number of TV viewers. Season 1 averaged a 0.34 rating with 750,000 viewers while Season 2 averaged a 0.19 rating with only 380,000 viewers, according to TV Series Finale. Season 2 result did not include the Season 2 finale numbers.

Despite the inconsistent result, the series still has a promising number of fan base. In fact, a fan has begun a campaign at the Change.orgpetition to invite Netflix to consider "Scream" Season 3.

The Season 2 finale ended up with a major revelation of Piper's (Amelia Rose Blaire) accomplice. The last season unmasked the killer who is Emma's (Willa Fitzgerald) boyfriend, Kieran (Amadeus Serafini).

Now, fans are waiting to know who called Kieran in the cell which could be revealed in a possible "Scream" Season 3 or in the Halloween special. The last episode titled "When a Stranger Calls," seemed to use the signature "Scream" killer voice asking a very strange and horrific question of "Who told you you could wear my mask?"
