To commemorate what would have been the 60th birthday of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, current Apple CEO posted on Twitter a quote taken from Jobs' commencement address delivered in Stanford: "The only way to do great work is to love what you do."
The Steve Jobs quote was delivered in front of the 2005 Stanford graduates on June 12, 2005. The now famous speech has been hailed as one of the finest speeches ever delivered in front of a graduating class.
In his speech posted Wall Street Journal, Jobs relieved three of the most important stories that has helped defined his life.
Jobs' first story was about connecting the dots. In this story, Jobs reminisced his college days and how he dropped out of Reed College after attending it for just six months. He later recalled how he took a calligraphy class without any hopes of any practical application in his future, only to realize the importance of that course when he was designing the first Macintosh computer.
Recalled in Jobs' second story are his early days at Apple and how he was ousted on the company that he started. It is in this story that he imparted on the graduates that in order to be truly satisfied in life is to find great work, he also added that in order to find great work one must find what they love to do.
The last story was about Jobs' death. In this story he told how he was diagnosed with a rare form of pancreatic cancer. It is in this last story that he shared how he conquered the fear of death and transformed it into a purely intellectual concept.
Steve Jobs died on Oct. 5, 2011 after complications of the previously treated pancreatic cancer.
