Apple issued a surprise update for iOS 9.3.5, something intended to address a security flaw involving its devices. Three security vulnerabilities were singled out as possible measures for an Israeli spy group whose targets were dissidents and journalists.
According to the New York Times, a group called NSO took advantage of the flaws which could have given them the power to read text messages, emails and track people using Apple devices. Apple’s attention was called upon by researchers at the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs and Lookout.
iOS 9.3.5 was able to address that issue but also thwart Pangu yet again. This was after the hacking group also pulled a surprise as well with the release of an unexpected and untethered jailbreak in the iOS 9.3.4.
iOS 9.3.4 jailbreak came out towards the end of August and had its short stint of fame to the Apple jailbreak community. The crack can technically be applicable with the assumption that Apple owners hold off on updating their current mobile operating system, Forbes reported.
Seeing the security risk that they have to deal with, opting to hold off on any major patch update like iOS 9.3.5 will entirely be their call. Then again, iOS 10 is expected to come out soon, possibly alongside the iPhone 7 which is set to debut on Sept. 7 in San Francisco.
It is worth noting as well that Pangu did show off an iOS 10 jailbreak a couple of months ago. Being its last card, the hacking group will be on the clock once more once Apple unveils its latest operating system in the coming days.
Pangu did surprise many with the release of the iOS 9.3.4 jailbreak. It somehow proves that the hacking group is working on some stuff and that not all are actually being revealed.
Moving forward, seeing an iOS 10 jailbreak should not take long. It was shown off at MOSEC 2016 so expectations are higher unless Apple has managed to patch up that alleged crack already.
