New Tokyo 42 multi-platform gameplay trailer launched, release date pegged for 2017

Publisher Mode 7 has finally announced that their isometric action video game Tokyo 42 will be released across several platforms including PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.

A Tokyo 42 release date has not yet been unveiled by Mode 7 but the new game trailer does show that it can be released in 2017. The game itself is a little unconventional compared to today's oversaturated first person shooter and RPG games market of video games.

Mode 7 even has troubles describing Tokyo 42 in just a few words as they now say the game is a "super stylish spinny-camera-isometric ultracolourful cyberpunk open-worldy assassin-fest," Polygon has learned. It does have one particular element that almost all successful video games have, violence.

The trailer shows the player trying to catch targets or running away from gangs in the little city maps shown in the isometric view. Tokyo 42 will reportedly have both a single player mode and a multiplayer mode so players can enjoy shooting each other in the cute isometric settings.

Mode 7 also describes Tokyo 42 as a "syndicate-meets-Monument Valley-meets-Worms' kind of game, MCV reported. Although it is not shown in the new Tokyo 42 game trailer, the title does have a story worthy of being played through in single player mode.

Paul Kilduff-Taylor said in a statement: "It's an action game to its colourful core: every bullet and grenade has full physics, enabling you to dodge and weave while you take on rival gang members, the police or sinister corporate drones. The attention to detail in this game is extraordinary: little secrets abound in every corner of the map."

The game looks vibrant in its own way and the small isometric city is filled with life even though it does stop at the edges. Tokyo 42's camera can be rotated so that the player can see obscured obstacles or targets in the game.

Gamers should expect Tokyo 42 to be finished by SMAC around 2017 as the game is still in its pre-alpha stage. PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 users will be able to get the new game next year.
