The latest "Pokémon Sun and Moon" trailer has a lot of information, which could shape up the entire Pokémon franchise to the core. Apart from some new Pokémon and Alola Forms, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company revealed many story elements including the Aether Foundation, a possible new rival who is part of Team Skull, and the search for the Zygarde Cells.
The most interesting new information is the introduction of the Ultra Beasts with the first being a huge jellyfish referred to as UB-01. The Ultra Beasts are a new idea in Pokémon.
The UB-01 "possess mighty powers and pose a threat to humans and Pokémon," according to the Pokémon official website. The Aether Foundation is seemingly conducting research on the Ultra Beasts.
The trailer reveals multiple Ultra Beasts with each having a code name. The website describes the UB-01 as continuously changing shape and that its movement resembles that of a little girl.
The groundwork, common theory going on currently is that Lillie, who was unveiled back in the initial "Pokémon Sun and Moon" trailer, is actually UB-01. The similarities are evident and the fact that Ultra Beast 1 is said to move like a small girl is sufficient to get the speculations rife.
Meanwhile, the day and night cycle has been an on and off element in Pokémon games and in "Pokémon Sun and Moon," they come back while also becoming a significant part of what makes both versions unique, according to the same website. "Pokémon Moon" will actually happen 12 hours after "Pokémon Sun," implying that while "Pokémon Sun" will follow the clock in gamers' Nintendo 3DS, "Pokémon Moon" will shift 12 hours. Although this is an interesting little feature, it affects the Pokémon that a player can catch as well as the story.
Solgaleo and Lunala will be saved for their corresponding versions but as seen in the Japanese trailer, specific areas will have specific Pokémon because of the time of the day. Totem Pokémon that players will face for the Island Challenge will be different because of the day and night cycle.
