Microsoft could finally be unveiling the new Surface Phone line as they are reportedly ending the Lumia Line of smartphones which has been bleeding money for the company.
Lumia sales have been sharply declining throughout the months and years after Microsoft acquired the line from Nokia. Now, new reports are claiming that the Redmond-based company is planning to axe the Lumia line altogether.
Price cuts for the newer Lumia phones have also stoked the fire for the rumors of discontinuing the product line. However, the good news is that Microsoft might be replacing it with the Surface Phone line that everyone has been talking about.
Microsoft has been giving permanent discounts for the Lumia phones which could signal the Surface Phone release date finally nearing being announced, iTech Post has learned. There has been no official announcement from the company itself but many are expecting that Microsoft will soon unveil the new smartphone line.
In terms of specs, the new Microsoft Surface Phone is expected to take on the flagship heavyweights from the Android and iOS platform such as the new Galaxy S7 Edge, Zenfone 3 or even the iPhone 7. There are no official specs yet but the expectations are high considering that it would be the company's Hail Mary for the mobile phone market.
Microsoft's own Laura Janet Baker also teased fans on Twitter by saying that the Surface Phone is not "not confirmed" which is a double negative, The Register reported. It could mean that the Surface Phone is actually confirmed and the company is just gearing up for an announcement soon.
Baker is the Director of Engineering from Microsoft and her words are not to be taken lightly. However, some are still skeptical that the double negative is a typographical error but no correction has been posted by Baker yet which means that it could still be true.
Microsoft has also been quiet regarding the Surface Phone rumors and speculations. The fact that they do not confirm it or deny with an official statement could mean that the smartphone is indeed in development and could be released soon.
