The list of Galaxy Note 7 victims continue to expand. On Friday, a Grand Cherokee custom jeep burned in St. Petersburg, Florida, after the owner left the smartphone charging while he went inside his house to get their pet dog.
On Monday, Android Headlines reported that a six-year-old boy in Brooklyn, New York, was burned after the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 exploded in his hand. The victim was rushed to the Downstate Medical Center.
Linda Lewis, the boy’s grandmother, said the boy was watching videos on the smartphone when it exploded. While the boy has been treated and is now home, he is afraid of being near a mobile phone again.
Because of the growing number of Galaxy Note 7 phones across the world, Samsung has ordered a recall of all units. Several airlines have banned the use and charging of the smartphone, while the U.S. government has ordered Americans to stop using the phone.
Phandroid reported that for phone owners who do not return their defective unit, Samsung would remotely deactivate their units if these are not returned by Sept. 30. Meanwhile, a Redditor claimed to have received a call from the Samsung which informed him it would start shipping replacement Galaxy Note 7s beginning Sept. 19.
Besides getting a brand-new Galaxy Note 7, those who return their units would also receive a new version of the Samsung Gear VR and a prepaid package to send the defective phone back without paying for shipping cost.
