Capcom is now officially rolling back the security update for Street Fighter V on PC after experts found out that the said patch opens up a local backdoor on their computers.

The company originally implemented the update to prevent players from cheating in the game in order to unlock the unreleased characters. Street Fighter V still has secret characters hidden inside the game which will require Capcom's official release before players are allowed to play them.

Since some gamers have a habit of trying to break the game and unlocking secrets, Capcom wanted to lock them shut and prevent them from doing so. Capcom released a driver along with the recent Street Fighter V PC update that would prevent cheaters by bypassing Windows's own security measures, The Register has learned.

SMEP is bypassed and it allows third-party apps to execute code which could wreck the whole system if they are malicious. The driver from Capcom just passed control codes in order to bypass the system's security measures which is designed to prevent the cheaters from breaking the game but it seems to have backfired.

Capcom has already announced on their official Street Fighter account that they are currently rolling back the security measure they launched and is apologizing for any inconvenience it might have caused, Ars Technica reported. The company said that they will release an update soon for the PC rollback solution.

Breaking a game to unlock hidden secrets is not entirely new in the PC gaming industry and has become a norm. However, it could be equated to pirating a game which is an illegal activity in itself.

Street Fighter V players were already warned by Capcom several weeks ago that breaking the game will violate their terms and conditions. The patch was launched on Thursday and was also aimed at those who wanted to obtain the in-game currency and other unlockables through cheating.

Capcom has already launched the rollback update for Street Fighter V PC version to remove the rootkit access. Players can just open the auto updater for the game and proceed to download the required files.
