Important details and everything else players need to know about "Mafia 3" have been revealed. The video game will also get a mobile version soon.
According to the official website of the video game, it is set in New Bordeaux in 1968. Players who are familiar with the franchise or the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise will most likely know its mechanics right away. They will drive around, shoot at anyone they like, and complete several missions along the way.
The main protagonist of this story is Lincoln Clay, a Vietnam War veteran. He returns home after his service, and he gets involved in the city's criminal underworld right away. He also wants to get away from his past.
Lincoln's surrogate family, the black mob, was betrayed and wiped out by the Italian Mafia, and he wanted revenge. He builds his own family and makes a path of military-grade revenge against those who were responsible.
The game will get a little political in this part of United States history. It opens with a warning that it will be racist, due to the time period. It will also not always be dark because it has some funny moments too.
Players will be able to enjoy different events in this game like Mardi Gras with its colorful parades. They can also participate in darker events like stalking other gangsters through the bayou.
The game has the perfect period soundtrack that accompanies the story and its setting. Players will be able to listen to this music too through the radio, if they wanted to. The big cutscenes and story moments will have the perfect music accompanying it, which makes it have a cinematic feel.
The game is told using a documentary technique, talking heads, with snippets of found footage. Players will also see some recording of senate hearings set decades after the events of the game. It combines the story moments set in the '60s and the memories of the survivors in interviews.
Players can drive around the city, and complete the story missions at their own pace, since there is nothing to pressure them. They can roam the huge city, avoid the cops from getting arrested, and fight off rival gangs to gain control a part of the area. The protagonist also has a stealth feature, which he can use his army-issued Bowie knife for some bloody takedowns.
The game will be launched on the PC, Mac, Xbox One, and the PlayStation 4. It will be available on Oct. 7.
In other "Mafia 3" related news, it will also get a mobile version for players to try out. According to another post on its official website, it will be called "Mafia 3: Rivals." It will be launched for iOS and Android devices on Oct. 7, the same day the console and PC version releases.
The mobile game will have the same setting, but it is played from a new perspective. It will have the game's characters, locations, and events that are based on those in developer Hangar 13's version. Players can put their name down on the website to gain in-game bonuses when it launches.
