Korean celebrity couple Baek Ji Young and Jung Suk Won announced on Oct. 13 that they are expecting a child. However, the pregnancy of the 40-year-old singer would result in cancellation of the rest of her concert tour.
She is eight weeks pregnant. The couple were married in 2013, but Baek Ji Young had a previous miscarriage, so out of concern for her health, her agency cancelled the rest of her concerts, beginning with the one scheduled on Oct. 22 in Ilsan, Soompi reported.
Her agency, Music Works, assured fans would get a complete refund of their tickets. Her tour originally kicked off in Busan in August and she was planning to visit all major cities in South Korea. She was opposed to cancelling her remaining concerts, but Music Works insisted, Korea Joongang Daily reported.
Before she became pregnant again, Baek Ji Young also held a concert on Aug. 28 at Club Nokia L.A. Live in Los Angeles, California, and on Aug. 30 at the Avery Fischer Hall of the Manhattan Lincoln Center in New York City, according to Billboard.
Baek Ji Young is a veteran in the K-pop industry since she debuted in the 1990s by reinventing herself from a dance-pop diva to a chart-topping ballad singer but could still perform occasionally an uptempo banger.
She had several Top 10 entries on the K-Pop Hot 100, including “Voice” in 2012 which reached No. 2, “Good Boy,” a dance track, at No. 4 in the same year. In 2013, her “Acacia” reached No. 9. Baek Ji Young is also a judge on “The Voice of Korea.”
She also sang “Love is Over,” the original sound track for the hit K-drama “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds.”
