After seeing arch rivals Manchester City securing the services of former Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola, Manchester United needed to make a statement of their own.
United duly responded by appointing Guardiola's rival Jose Mourinho. Mourinho is of course very well known by English fans, the Portuguese coach was formerly in charge of Chelsea of course.
The new United manager who has enjoyed success wherever he ever he has been will need to bring some new players into the club to help The Red Devils become one of the most dominant forces in English football that they once were.
That's if the way the season is currently going is anything to go by.
To be fair to the former Porto boss he has looked to do that (sign some 'big name' players) by signing the likes of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Frenchman and the Swede have brought a new added dimension to United's play, but if the early parts of this season is anything to by Man United still lack a cutting edge.
There have been glimpses of this 'champagne football' that Man United fans crave, the wins against Leicester and Fenerbahce by the same scoreline respectively showed that this current United team does have some undoubted potential.
On the flipside, defeats to Watford, Manchester City, and Feyenoord in the Europa League shows that Jose is in need of some reinforcements. Such a comment might seem 'bizarre', especially for a side who spent in excess of £150 million in the transfer window.
As good as the Red Devils have been in some games, games such as the one against Stoke where The Potters drew 1-1 with United, despite The Reds having the better of the game.
For a team and of United's and a manager of Jose Mourinho's caliber, more reinforcements are still needed for 'The Special One' to have any chance of making his time at Old Trafford a success.
The most obvious reinforcement needed is in attack. At the moment, in Europe arguably Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann is one of the best in Europe.Greizmann's goal scoring is there for all to see.
In Euro 2016, the former Real Sociedad forward was the Golden Boot winner of course with six goals, which went nicely with the 30+ goals he scored for his club side Atletico.
Not the biggest player, but the 25-year-old does arguably have something none of the players at the club currently have at the club. With club captain Wayne Rooney in decline, why not bid for Antoine Greizmann?
Frenchman Greizman won't come cheap, but neither did Paul Pogba.There is the issue of the Frenchman struggling to settle in England, which is a valid point of course, but the Manchester United hierarchy will be hoping that Greizmann's friend Pogba would be a key factor in helping him settle in. Apparently, Atletico are reluctant to sell anyway but in the world of football money talks.
