"Looking" actor Raul Castillo has been cast for a recurring role in The CW's upcoming television series "Riverdale," based on the hit "Archie" comics.

Castillo will play a character named Oscar. He is a serious and successful songwriter from New York who heads to Riverdale to teach as a visiting professor at Carson College, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Oscar agrees to have Archie audition for one of his projects, hoping that he can mentor the aspiring singer-songwriter. The only question now is whether Archie truly has what it takes. Castillo will make his debut as Oscar in episode five of "Riverdale."

"Riverdale" has already cast K.J. Apa as Archie, Lili Reinhart as Betty, Camila Mendes as Veronica, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones and Ashleigh Murray as Josie. The series takes a subversive adaptation of the hit comic book series and takes a deeper look into the life of teenagers in a small town.

According to /FILM, Apa's Archie is involved in a "forbidden relationship with Riverdale's young music teacher, Ms. Grundy." The character will be portrayed by Sarah Habel. From this plot synopsis alone, there's a clear indication that the series will deviate from the original source material, as Ms. Grundy in the comics is a lot older than her students.

Although it is set in the present time, "Riverdale" will go back to the very beginning of the "Archie" storyline, particularly with respect to Veronica's life. The character is described as a new student who transfers to Riverdale from New York with her mother, Hermione. She becomes best friends with Betty Cooper, who has a huge crush on Archie.

In the series Betty's life is darker compared to the comics. In "Riverdale," Betty's mom is a control freak who makes her take Adderall to stay "focused."

The series is reportedly inspired by the 90's series "Twin Peaks" since "Riverdale" also centers on a murder mystery. The synopsis states that the show will begin with the high school "reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom."

"Riverdale" has a tentative release date of October 2017 on The CW.
