AMD has been working on enthusiast processors that are based on Zen architecture. The said CPU is reported to feature special variants that are intended for over clockers.

WccfTech had learned that some speculations suggest that there would be at least one such overclocking variant in the Summit Ridge family. The part will be sporting an 8 cores based on the Zen architecture. With these special variants, the enthusiast-grade chips would guarantee high OC margins but also ship with higher frequencies compared to standard 95W variants. The TDP would still be at 95W for the higher clocked variants given that these are cherry picked.

Based on these specifics it seems that these variants would be akin to Intel's "Unlocked" series processors. The Intel K-Series chips are also designed at a similar market though; these are the only chips in Intel Core line-up that can be overclocked. On the other hand, the graphics processing unit maker AMD delivers unlocked multiplier across all chips. Nonetheless the special variants would normally be improved for overclocking and enthusiast use.

Furthermore, TechnoAisle reported that Intel has been unveiling the 'K' variants of its i5 and i7 desktop CPUs for quite a few years which leads to a great success. The gamers particularly look forward to Intel's 'K' series chips. This was because the modern PC games can eat up any CPU resources users can get their hands on, most specifically on lower resolutions, where a decent GPU might be blocked by a slow CPU. With this, it would be normal to think that AMD is going after the very same section of the market with its so called 'overclocking-friendly' Zen chips.

Nevertheless, AMD is not yet spilling information as of the moment. With this it is really safe to say that the above mentioned details should be treated with a grain of salt.
