Reki Kawahara's light novel turned anime series - "Sword Art Online" has been made known previously to be getting a live TV adaptation. The said plan is now a step closer to becoming a reality as it is now reported to have a showrunner and screenwriter.  

Inquisitor stated that TV and film production outfit, Skydance Media, has tapped the expertise of Laeta Kalogridis to showrun the widely followed anime franchise. That being said, the writer/producer has already signed a contract with the production firm and the aforementioned animated serial is one of her future projects.

Skydance founder David Ellison expressed his excitement to have the decorated writer on board his company. Moreover, he said that he is honored that Kalogridis chose his company to be her "creative home."  

Apart from "SAO," the writer is also slated to handle another project dubbed "Altered Carbon" which is also a sci-fi novel from author Richard Morgan that got published almost 15 years ago.  

Meanwhile, fans of the anime series are still musing as to when will the show's next season would come to fruition. If rumors are anything to go by, details of the much-awaited installment might be blurted out by the anime series' musical director Yuki Kajiura as he will be hosting a concert to feature the music of "SAO" inside Hollywood's Dolby Theater on January 14 next year, per FX News Call. Nevertheless, avid followers should be taking such with a pinch of salt since its studio - A-1 Pictures still has to make an official statement about the show's undisclosed season.   

Another thing to look forward  to by fans is the inbound animated featurette entitled, "Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale." Kawahara stressed that the upcoming animated film will be leaving fans in awe as the creator claims that the movie will have so much in store for its fans.  

"SAO: Ordinal Scale" will be shelled out on Feb. 18 and Mar. 1 in Japan and in the U.S. respectively next year.
