Apple has been steadily updating their iPhone and iPad lineups and the MacBook Pro has recently seen an upgrade. The company has not given the same amount of attention to its desktop iMac computers but Apple CEO Tim Cook promises that there are updates currently in the works.
According to Tech Crunch, Cook sent out a company message that confirmed there are still plans of keeping the iMac lineup relevant. He did first point out that the current generation iMac, with its Retina 5K display, is the best desktop the company has ever put out to date.
"Some folks in the media have raised the question about whether we're committed to desktops," Cook further explained. "If there's any doubt about that with our teams, let me be very clear: we have great desktops in our roadmap. Nobody should worry about that."
Cook did state that one of the reasons why it takes Apple so long at times to release a new product is because they want to ensure that their hardware, software and services all come together at the peak of their quality, 9to5Mac reported. The CEO further stated that for Apple "good isn't good enough."
When asked what kind of plans Apple is working on he confirmed he could not talk about the items on their roadmap as of the time being. He is reportedly excited about their upcoming plans. It is stated that Cook specifically mentioned the iMac and not a Mac Pro or Mac Mini desktop.
The most recent iMac lineup update was in October 2015 when the desktops were upgraded with the Intel Skylake processors, AMD graphic cards and the aforementioned Retina 5K display. It was expected that Apple would release an update this past October but no announcement was made at the time.
Apple has not yet announced the specs of the upcoming iMac updates. No release date has been released either and it is unclear if Apple plans on releasing these new products before the year ends or in 2017.
