"The Walking Dead" Season 7 finale was packed with shockers and teasers of things that are yet to come on the AMC series.

At this point in the zombie apocalypse thriller drama, several communities and characters have already been introduced. It is also worth mentioning that after being the leader of the pack of survivors for so long, Rick Grimes is all the while the one being bullied.

Here are some of the other hidden clues and moments that rounded out the Midseason 7 finale, according to Comicbook.com:

Maggie's Leadership

Most of the hidden clues stem from viewers' knowledge of "The Walking Dead" comics. Part of that knowledge is the fact that Maggie turns out to be the leader of the Hilltop community. The shift in leadership was never more ostensible than the subtle scene in the opening of episode 8.

It can be recalled that as Gregory tried to criticize Maggie, he stood by her post with an apple. After she asked about it, Eduardo said Gregory should hand it over since she's pregnant. It was pretty clear that in the aftermath of her dramatic heroics in episode 5, the Hilltop community was already starting to side with Maggie.

Rick's Return

The closing moments of the midseason 7 finale presented the tonal shift for the season 7B's theme, "rise up." The episode saw the reunion of Rick and Maggie for the first time since the season premiere. Rick also hugged Daryl after his incarceration at Negan's Sanctuary. Most importantly, he had his gun back.

The handing over of the python represented Rick's position in relation to Negan because when the latter stripped the former of his gun, he also took away his power and persona. Now that he already has his gun back, Rick can finally return to his leadership position and fight the bullies.

Dwight's Room

The room of Dwight was teeming with teases of his and Daryl's mirroring. In the series, the two hate each other so much for the things that their respective groups have compelled them to do to one another. In reality, however, the series is painting them as not very different from each other. Dwight, who has been donning Daryl's vest for weeks, was not around when Daryl escaped the Sanctuary.

As Daryl rummaged around Dwight's room for clothes, he dressed as his nemesis and stumbled upon a wooden carved chess piece. This chess piece was the piece that Daryl found in the early half of Season 6, before Dwight was formally introduced as a member of the Saviors. The absence of Daryl from the Sanctuary has also sparked speculations that he might be the one creeping on Rick, Aaron and Alexandria in the midseason 7 finale. On the other hand, Comicbook previously laid down the possibility that it could be Dwight, considering that he has all the reasons to spy on Alexandria.

Richard's Chosen Weapon

In the beginning of the midseason finale, viewers caught a glimpse of Carol and Morgan for the first time in six weeks. After their conversation, Richard of the Kingdom showed up with glass bottles in his hands. In the original comics, Richard uses these bottles as cocktails to take out the Saviors during the war while fighting with Alexandria, the Hilltop and the Kingdom. His request for help in the war in the midseason finale was a major tease of what's ahead, though Carol and Morgan's refusal is still a wild card. In the comics, both characters are already dead.

Aaron's Beating Heart

Each episode in season 7 has made its title known in the form of a dialogue at some point in the episode, and the midseason finale was not an exception. After being beaten by the Saviors, Aaron told Rick that everything was fine because his "heart's still beating." This could have been a reflection of that of Alexandria's, who have also taken a beating but whose hearts are still beating - ready to rise up and fight again.
