Months prior to the release of "Doctor Strange," rumors about Clea being part of Marvel Studios' latest hit came and went. As the movie hit theaters, however, it turned out that there was not even a single mention of the character.

While the famous love interest of Stephen Strange was not in the movie, screenwriter Jon Spaihts revealed that her participation was taken into consideration. Spaihts also revealed that despite her absence in the original film, the character might make her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the sequel.

In an interview with Comic Book Movie, Spaihts said it is possible for the Sorcerer Supreme's protégé to show up in the next "Doctor Strange." However, fans still have to wait for Marvel's announcement to know if there is indeed going to be a follow-up to the first film.

During the interview, the screenwriter revealed some interesting details as to why they had decided not to include Clea in the first movie. He also weighed in on how possible it is for the fan-favorite character to be added to the franchise.

"She's a tricky character to interpret because her uncle is a kind of fire-headed omnipotent god and she's kind of a hot babe who studies magic," Spaihts said of Clea. "That's a tricky relationship to bring out of a comic book and on to a movie screen."

According to Spaihts, Clea is a really compelling character as Doctor Strange's foil, love interest and colleague who always carries with her that width of mystery as to whether or not she is human, how human she is and what that means for his relationship with her. He said they may find a way to introduce her to the story.

Marvel has not yet contracted Spaihts to pen the next "Doctor Strange" film, but the renowned screenwriter hopes to return for the inevitable sequel. He has already bounced a few ideas around in his head, including the involvement of a villain who almost made it to the first film, CBR reported.

According to Spaihts, the sequel may feature a zombie apocalypse Shuma-Gorath elder god scenario. It may also see the return of Mordo, as embodied by the strange Chiwete.

"Doctor Strange" follows the story of a surgeon named Stephen Strange, whose life has changed following a car accident that robbed him of the use of his hands.
