Microsoft is rumored to be working on multiple prototypes of Surface Phone. Its trial production is expected to begin soon.

Recently, a well-known leakster from China, Xio Feng has revealed new several leaked photos of the Microsoft Surface Phone on Weibo social networking site, Nokia Power User reported. In the past, too, several leaked photos may have surfaced but these new renders carry Surface Phone branding, Phone Arena reported.

However, the leaked renders appear to be fake because the camera of the device has Carl Zeiss branding. As the branding is not in use since 2013, the renders seem to belong to an older prototype.

Microsoft is rumored to be testing multiple prototypes of Surface Phone. It is pegged to be powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC with Quick Charging 4.0 support. It will be running on 64-bit Windows 10 Mobile.

One of the prototypes of Surface Phone is said to feature 6 GB of RAM. It allows the device to run X86 apps through Continuum. The other prototype of Microsoft Surface Phone seems to feature also runs on 64-bit Windows 10 Mobile and features 4 GB of RAM but is unable to run X86 apps in Continuum.

These two may eventually roll out as consumer and enterprise editions of Surface Phone. Both the models are expected to feature 5.5-inch quad HD screen.

Microsoft has rumored to have partnered with Pegatron as the ODM partner for the manufacturing of Surface Phone. Recent rumors also indicate that the trial production of Surface Phone is going to being soon. Microsoft is expected to launch the Surface Phone along with Redstone 3 update for Windows 10 Mobile by August or September 2017.

Even though the Redmond giant has not launched a new flagship smartphone after the release of Lumia 950 and 950 XL smartphones in 2014, it seems that the company has not given up on its smartphone business. In a recent review, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella hinted that the brand may arrive in market to as ultimate mobile device.

Microsoft has achieved stupendous with its surface line of products such as Surface Pro 2-in-1 device, Surface Book, Surface Studio and more. Since it has a well-established brand under its belt, it is likely that the upcoming Surface branded smartphone may help in disturbing sales of smartphone giants like Apple, Google and Samsung.
