Expectations for One Punch Man season 2 remains high months following the announcement that there will be a sequel to the smash-hit anime series. After treating fans with fast-paced, bad-ass action in the first season, OPM season 2 is expected to match that level of intensity in every episode while catering an intriguing story plot.

Speaking of the story material for the upcoming season, Madhouse Studio has kept that thing classified. Don't believe in what you read in the internet about Boros returning or Amai Mask becoming the next major villain. As far as the story in the original comic series by ONE goes, the hero-hunter Gorou should be the next in line.

Meanwhile, the progression of the story in Yusuke Murata's manga adaptation hasn't yet gone deeper into the Monster Association arc. For now, the spotlight is on the battle between Saitama disguising as Charanko and a mysterious fighter named Suiryu.

Suiryu as potential Blast candidate:

Based on his performance throughout the Super Fight tournament, Suiryu is a pretty strong fighter. He easily defeated A-Class Rank-19 hero Max, A-Class Rank-37 Sneck, and knocked out Volten in 3 seconds. In the final, he 'tried' to intimidate Saitama with a series of kicks and punches before expressing his utter excitement of finally fighting someone strong enough to get his blood boiling.

Is Suiryu the one all OPM fans have been waiting for years? Is he the mighty Blast, the no.1 ranked hero in the Heroes' Association, the one capable of matching Saitama's sheer power? Reddit user Heart Strike dissected that particular issue, providing the facts that support and oppose Suiryu as Blast.

Stuff that supports this theory:

Suiryu took 3 years time off from martial arts, no one knows what he did, there's only the rumor that he was traveling. The Hero Association was formed 3 years ago.

Suiryu is obviously strong. (remains to be seen exactly how strong he is, though)

Stuff that opposes this theory:

Contradicts what Shicchi said about Blast. "He hates to stand out". Suiryu had no problem with the attention he was getting, looked like he enjoyed it. Plus as a martial artist mega star, he stands out a lot. (though, he might just not have wanted the public to find out about his hero activities) Suiryu's personality as a whole just doesn't seem like the same kind of person that Blast has to be to match his actions.

Suiryu is interested in fighting strong opponents. Then why has he never shown up as Blast for any crisis or seemingly strong mysterious being? If he can be bothered with showing up for this tournament just because he saw Garou in the last one, then as a hero, he can be bothered with fighting a lot of the mysterious beings that have shown up.

I doubt ONE would reveal Blast in the manga now since we haven't even been given a decent clue about him in the webcomic.

The next issue of One Punch Man, Chapter 113, is going to be epic, because it will show how Suiryu would fair against Saitama, who literally one-punches his way to the finals. If Suiryu manages to back up his talk about being strong, then it's about time to put him on top among the candidates of being Blast, the anointed anti-thesis character in the series. Moreover, it further adds more hype to season 2, where we can finally see these two overpowered fighters duke it out for supremacy.
