It's the first day of senior high school for Norman Bates in "Bates Motel" Season 3, Episode 1. The new chapter begins with Norma and Norman in a weird spooning moment early in the morning. Dylan catches the scene and disapproves.

Norma later gets a phone call from a law firm, which said her mother has died. She refuses to take part in any process involving the late woman's estate. On the way to Norman's school, Norma casually tells him about the death in the family. She gets emotional, though, when she talks to Dylan about her mother.

Norman hesitates about school, so Norma drags him out of her car, a drama that many other students get to witness. Come lunch break, Norman gets a bloody vision of Miss Watson, and he creates another scene. The situation calls for homeschooling, as far as Norma is concerned.

Norman Bates becomes infatuated with a prostitute named Annika in "Bates Motel" Season 3, Episode 1. In what is perceived to be a nod to a specific scene in the movie "Psycho," Norman engages in an act of voyeurism - just after he got promoted to "motel manager."

On side stories, Caleb returns in "Bates Motel" Season 3, Episode 1 to share some cash inheritance with his son/nephew. Dylan refuses. They share another scene later in the episode, in which Caleb gets emotional in recalling his and Norma's troubled childhood.

At night, Norma brings up Dylan's remarks to him and convinces Norman he should sleep in his own room. The next morning, Norman tells Emma it's time they start dating. "It's been time for a while," she says. She has reason to smile despite her "diminished" lung capacity.

Norman later finds Norma crying about her mother's death. To cap the night, Norma invites her son back to her bed, just for one night, because she's sad.

Annika later leaves Bates Motel with Norman, who volunteers to help her get to a gig. She talks a lot about sex, and Norman listens closely. Meanwhile, Emma leaves the motel alone, while her boyfriend is out with a prostitute.

The next episode of "Bates Motel" Season 3 will air A&E on Mar. 16. It is called "The Arcanum Club."
