Viewers of the Australian reality television show "Bride and Prejudice" were dismayed when the mother chose religion over her son. Groom-to-be Chris invited his parents to his wedding with Grant but was rejected. He revealed he was hurt and angry but is still open for a possible reconciliation in the future.

"I'm not going to lie, it hurt," Chris told News.com.au. "I went in there hoping for the best and knew it was going to be difficult... but the result was it was painful."

Chris met Grant at a bar and they locked eyes, Popsugar reported. It was a love at first sight and both immediately understood they have chemistry. Grant relocated from the United States to live with Chris in Australia.

Chris' Christian mother and ex-soldier father believe being gay is a sin because it is not natural. He and his parents have not spoken for more than a year, but he wants their blessing before his wedding.

Tension grew up on Channel 7's "Bride and Prejudice" when Chris detailed to his father Geoff and mother Yvonne that he will marry his partner of three years. He told his parents that Grant is important to him and they will get married in Palm Springs in a month.

Yvonne was happy to have her son but has nothing to do with his way of life and partner. Chris responded it was either they accept everything about him or nothing. His parents  did not choose him.

Chris, who works as an operations manager in Sydney, was aware his parents have strong stance, but hoped they had softened. He revealed since he came out being gay in his early 20s, things started to be tense among them and they do not openly talk about his sexuality. They usually just talked about Chris' work or school.

Yvonne found Jehova's Witnesses in her 20s following some difficult times of her life. She raised Chris with the religion. Her son understands his mother's conviction but not that of his father's, as he thinks he is not religious.

Geoff was an army for 20 years and Chris considers his father's beliefs to be personal. That makes it more difficult for Chris to accept.

The reaction of Grant's parents about the upcoming wedding was different. Dana and Pam, who are from conservative backgrounds, flew from the United States to meet their son-in-law.
