BTS Joins The Star-studded Lineup Roped In For Making 2022 Grammy Nominations Announcements (Photo : REUTERS )

Super K-pop group BTS has been nominated in four categories for the 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs). The South-Korean boys' band has bagged nominations in Biggest Fans, Best Group, Best K-pop, and Best Pop categories.

In the Best Pop category, the Bangtan Boys will compete with international superstars Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Doja Cat, and Olivia Rodrigo. Incidentally, Justin Bieber is the frontrunner at this year's show with eight nominations in total.

BTS is placed against Silk Sonic, Måneskin, Jonas Brothers, Imagine Dragons, and Little Mix in the Best Group category. The Biggest Fans category has an impressive line-up of artists such as Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, BTS, and fellow K-pop artist BLACKPINK.

The Best K-pop category will see BTS vie for the coveted award with NCT 127, Monsta X, Twice, and BLACKPINK's Rose and Lisa as solo artists. 

This is the third year that BTS has been nominated at the MTV EMAs and the second time that TWICE has been voted nominees for the Best K-pop. It is the first nomination at the coveted award show for the rest of the K-pop artists in this category. 

K-pop has become a global phenomenon over the past few years with artists such as BTS, BLACKPINK, TWICE, Seventeen, and Monsta X making the genre popular worldwide.

BTS has had a stronghold over the recent K-pop award shows as well as international ones, which has not only cemented the bands' global fame but also is a testament to their ever-increasing popularity.

At the MTV VMAs in September 2021, the South-Korean group won the most number of awards, including Best Song of the Summer and Best K-pop Video for the song "Butter. The group also defeated BLACKPINK in a fan-voted category and won the Group of the Year.

Fans are expecting BTS to rule the 2021 MTV EMAs too. The show will be hosted in Hungary this year at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna in solidarity with the marginalized LGBTQ+ community in the country. The event will be broadcast live MTV reported that the 2021 MTV EMAs will air live on MTV channels in 180 countries at 4 AM KST/ 3 PM ET.

MTV is yet to announce details like the lineup, presenters, or show host. Votings for the Best K-pop and Best Pop categories are open now to fans worldwide. The categories of Biggest Fans and Best Group are reported to open shortly.
